Information & Communication Technology

Focus: Conceptual Understanding, Algorithmic Analysis, and HKDSE Success

Pedagogical Approach: Emphasizes structured, knowledge-based, and analytical learning. Students learn to deconstruct problems logically, formulate algorithms, and develop disciplined programming practices.

Junior Secondary Curriculum (S1 to S3 — School-Based)

  • Computer Literacy & Architecture: Computer components (CPU, memory, storage), operating systems, cloud environments, and digital file organization.
  • Computational Thinking: Decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, flowcharting, and pseudocode logic.
  • Computer Networking Fundamentals: Basics of LAN/WAN, IP addressing, network hardware (routers, switches), and wireless communication protocols.
  • Core Python Programming
  • Variables, data types (numbers, strings, booleans), and arithmetic/logical operations.
  • Control structures: conditional statements (if-elif-else) and loops (for/while).
  • Data collections: lists, tuples, and dictionaries.
  • Modular programming: functions, parameter passing, and debugging techniques.
  • Digital Citizenship & Cyber Safety: Password security, encryption awareness, anti-phishing practices, and online ethics.

Senior Secondary Curriculum (S4 to S6 — HKDSE Elective)

  • Curriculum Goal: Comprehensive academic preparation for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination.
  • Compulsory Part
  1. Information Processing: Data representation, number systems (binary, hexadecimal), multimedia formats, databases, and data validation.
  2. Computer System Fundamentals: Hardware architectures, CPU instruction cycles, system software, and operating system management.
  3. Internet & its Applications: Networking protocols, client-server models, domain names, web technologies, and cloud computing.
  4. Computational Thinking & Programming: Algorithm design, trace tables, error handling, standard algorithms (searching/sorting), and abstraction.
  5. Social Implications: Legal frameworks, copyright, personal data privacy laws, green computing, and ethical considerations.
  • Elective Part
    1. Elective A (Databases): Relational database design, entity-relationship (ER) diagrams, data normalization, SQL queries, and database management systems.
    2. Elective C (Algorithm and Programming): Advanced algorithm design, object-oriented concepts, recursion, data structures (stacks, queues, linked lists), and software development lifecycles.
  • Higher Education Pathways: Articulates directly to university programmes in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Information Systems.
