A crucial quality of being a global citizen is social empathy, which refers to our ability to show concerns and care to those who are suffering from consequences brought by social and economic inequalities.
To nurture students’ empathy for those in need and show our support for the French people who lost their love ones in the terrorist attacks on November 13, Je Suis Paris Day was held in LTPSS in December 2015.
By donating $10 or more, each student was given a badge designed by our Humanities & Liberal Studies teachers, which they can wear on the non-uniform day. That day, students who joined the campaign dressed in red, white or blue — the colours of the French flag. The donation was used to support a Christmas Party for refugee families in Hong Kong, an initiative shared with West Island International School. A series of activities and displays were jointly organised by different departments for our students to learn more about refugees’ problem, the cultural minorities in Hong Kong and experience a little of Parisian life. These are done to remind our students that, to be global citizens, they should show empathy and understanding to those less fortunate or whose lives are in danger
