The 2nd Staff Development Day of LTPSS was held on 27th November 2019 at our school campus with the theme: Giving thanks. Our Principal kicked start the day by giving thanks to every staff member of the school. Then, all staff members were invited to write messages to thank their co-workers for their efforts, love and understanding in the last few months. The SLT members also took the chance to thank different groups of staff for their unstinting support in nurturing students to be kind and self-regulated.
After the thanksgiving session, there was an in-house sharing session about Experiential Learning Week (ELW). Four trip leaders were invited to share their experiences in organizing the ELW trips last year. They shared about the roles of ELW trip leaders, the rationale of organizing ELW trips, the takeaways of student participants as well as the challenges they had faced and the ways to tackle them. All participants, especially the new teachers gained a better understanding of this annual school event.
To celebrate Thanksgiving Day, all staff members joined the potluck lunch at the Hall. Some colleagues made food to share while other colleagues treated roasted chickens and suckling pig. It was a great time spent on team building activities and thanksgiving sharing. All staff members enjoyed the warm and relaxing lunch a lot.
In the afternoon, teachers were assigned to join four parallel sessions based on their professional development needs. Among the parallel sessions, two of them were academic-related while the other two were pastoral-related. Thanks be to Mr. Alan Cheng and the Master Of Teachers (MOT) team. They voluntarily organized two sessions – nurturing growth mindset and scaffolding in classroom teaching respectively. The other two sessions were conducted by an EDB officer and a speaker from HKFYG. The topics are about Chinese Language teaching and Career counseling respectively. All sessions were well-received by colleagues.
Last but not least, a group of teachers joined an experiential education Professional Development programme in Cheung Chau on that day. It was a training programme designated for teacher chaperons who will lead the S1 ELW trip to Cheung Chau.
