It is a well-established tradition that LTPSS celebrates the Spanish Day in October. Last Friday 16th of October, the Spanish Department organized a number of activities, both in class and beyond, to give students the opportunity to reflect on the richness of cultural diversity, and on what it means to live in a global world.
On Friday afternoon, our school brought Hispanic culture in taste, colours, and sounds to transform the school into a wonderful Spanish-speaking venue. A series of activities took place:
-
During recess times, Savio Shi (5SA) and our favourite Clow Mila, from Argentina, made a performance involving air bubbles.
-
During Spanish lesson with our S3: Savio Chi (5SA) and Clown Mila did a class intervention. The rest of the class was consecrated to provide the students with a selection of Hispanic music from different countries, encouraging them to distinguish the different musical traditions from Latin America and Spain.
-
Afternoon Hall session:
-
Music performance: One of the highlights of Spanish Day is the traditional visit of the Latin music band “Azúcar Latina”, our friends from Colombia, Cuba, Peru, Dominican Republic, and Mexico. Their performance of Latin American music hits like “Suavemente” or “Despacito” invited the audience to dance to well known Hispanic rhythms.
-
Mexican Piñata: following the tradition of representing contemporary subjects, this year our Piñata commemorates the fight against Covid-19, having the shape of a Corona Virus itself. For health reasons, this time the piñata was not filled with candies but with colour paper shreds
-
Some of our bravest students had the chance to hit the Piñata and the colourful explosion made everyone very excited and happy! Some students got very actively involved in the event, by dancing, hitting the Piñata and enlivening the students’ groups. Special thanks to Chloe Cheung and William Bauer (1S).
-
This event wouldn’t have been the same without the priceless help if the Senior students who contributed with her time, hands and smiles: Tommy Mok Cham, Hermione Chang Chin Nam, Jenny Chan Yi Man and Savio Shi Chit Hei, all from S5 and Darren Burge, Kevin Zhang from S4
-
Everyone enjoyed the virtuous dancing panda and his marvellous salsa dance moves: teachers and students alike followed his spicy rhythms.
-
And last but not least, special thanks to the best Mexican astronaut, Savio Shi Chit Hei, an S5 student who showed a promising acting career with his original and tireless moves.
We thank all the participants, parents and other guests, including PTA representatives who visited us to enjoy the good vibes of the very unique Spanish Day at our school.
