Organised by the Hong Kong Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools Council, the Taiwan Study Tour 2015 for principals and career teachers was held successfully from 13th October to 17th October 2015. During the five-day tour, our Head of Careers and Life Planning Education Committee, Ms. Joanna Lee, and our Head of Public Relations, Mr. Siu Kam Kuen visited a number of top universities in Taiwan, including the National Taiwan Ocean University (國立臺灣海洋大學) in Kee Lung, National Taiwan University (國立臺灣大學) in Taipei, Chang Gung University (長庚大學) in Tao Yuan; Apart from universities, our teachers also visited the Taipei Municipal Heping Senior High School (臺北市立和平高級中學) and the Taipei Municipal ZhongLun Senior High School (台北市立中崙高級中學), which has recently been selected by Microsoft as one of the four mentor schools (標竿學校) worldwide. In addition, our teachers also paid a visit to the Taipei Municipal Zhong Shan Girls High School (臺北市立中山女子高級中學) – a top girls school in Taipei which is famous for its persistent effort in promoting FLIP (學思達教學).
During the whole tour, not only had our teachers visited the state-of-the-art school campuses, observed lessons, and seized the opportunities to understand the learning atmosphere and curriculum offered by these universities and schools, but they had also met the down-to-earth and visionary principals from these prestigious universities. Together they exchanged their views and observations regarding life planning education as well as secondary and post-secondary curriculum in both cities, the top-down support from the Department of Education of Taipei City Government and the concerted effort of various schools on the implementation of information technology and flipped classrooms, and the possibilities of organising study trips for our students to facilitate cultural exchanges and to experience university life in Taiwan.
One of the highlights of the trip was the gathering with our school’s alumnus, Mr. Yip Sai Hong, Sam, who only started his studies at the National Taipei University of Education (國立台北教育大學) in September this year. Sam, our pride, is currently pursuing his bachelor degree in the Department of Arts and Design. From his sharing, our teachers learnt about his enthusiasm towards his studies; from his sharing, our teachers felt his excitement about his discoveries in terms of arts and cultures; from his sharing, our teachers observed his adaption to his new life in Taipei. The hospitable locals around him and the strong bonding among the Chinese youths (僑生), we believe, have helped him a lot in the past few weeks.
Ms. Joanna Lee and Mr. Siu Kam Kuen would like to thank the school for offering the chance to explore further education overseas. We look forward to having more opportunities of study tours for our teachers and students, as well as seeing more of our stars realising their dreams in Taiwan and around the globe.
