Student Guidance and Discipline
Whole-School Approach to STAR Qualities
At LTPSS, we embrace a Whole-School Approach to instil and promote our STAR qualities: Self-Management, Teachable Spirit, Aspiration, and Resilience. These qualities are fundamental in shaping our students into well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to the society.
Promoting STAR Qualities
- Self-Management: We encourage students to take responsibility for their actions and decisions and to foster skills in time management and emotional regulation.
- Teachable Spirit: A culture of openness to learning is nurtured, where students feel safe to ask questions, seek help, and learn from feedback.
- Aspiration: Students are motivated to set SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-framed) personal and academic goals, with support systems in place to help them achieve these aspirations.
- Resilience: Students are equipped with strategies to cope with challenges and are taught the value of perseverance and a growth mindset.
Living Our Motto
Our school motto—“Sincerity, Righteousness, Contemplation, and Practice”—serves as a guiding light for our community. We encourage students to embody these values daily:
- Sincerity: Act with honesty and integrity in all interactions.
- Righteousness: Make ethical decisions and treat others fairly.
- Contemplation: Engage in self-reflection to understand the impact of their choices.
- Practice: Apply learned values consistently to foster personal and communal growth.
Encouraging Positive Behaviour
Recognition of School Leaders
We recognise the essential role of school prefects and student leaders in fostering a positive school culture. Our initiatives include:
- Affirming Positive Behaviour: Leaders are encouraged to model STAR qualities and the school motto and to serve as role models for their peers.
- Developing Leadership Skills: Through training and mentorship, we help student leaders enhance their leadership capabilities and confidence.
Adoption of an Educative Approach
Our educative approach adopted focuses on learning from mistakes:
- Emphasising Reflection: Students are guided to reflect on their actions and understand the consequences, thus reinforcing the idea that mistakes are valuable learning opportunities.
- Talks and Discussions: Regular sessions promote discussions on decision-making and ethics, thus encouraging students to think critically about their choices.
Counselling Support
For students who violated the school rules, counseling support is provided to promote:
- Deep Reflection: The Discipline teachers work with students to explore their decisions and the impact on themselves and others.
- Personal Growth: Support is provided to help students develop strategies for improved behaviour and emotional well-being.
Inspiration from Different Sources
- Principal’s Heart-to-Heart Talk
Our Principal regularly holds Heart-to-Heart Talks to conduct open dialogue about values, challenges, and personal growth with students. These sessions inspire students to reflect on their journeys and encourage a supportive school environment.
- External Speakers
We invite external speakers, such as social workers from NGOs, the School Police Liaison Officer, to deliver educational talks that address important topics that cover safety and responsibility and community engagement.
- Parents as our close partners
Parents are our essential partners in the educational journey of our students. By fostering strong communication and collaboration between school and home, we ensure that our shared values and expectations are reinforced.
At LTPSS, our whole-school approach to student guidance and discipline is designed to cultivate a respectful, responsible, and resilient student body. By promoting our STAR qualities and integrating our school motto into daily practices, we create an environment where every student can thrive.
