“Enhancing Students’ Learning Effectiveness in Career Exploration Activities”
On 3rd October, Edwina Leung from 6S and Gigi Wong from 6M joined Mr. Li, our Assistant Principal and Ms. Joanna Lee, the Head of Careers and Life Planning Education as the guest speakers in a sharing session titled “Enhancing students’ learning effectiveness in Career Exploration Activities” It was an EDB professional development workshop for Careers Teachers. During the workshop, they shared about how our Careers and Life Planning Education is implemented in our school. As an example, we showed our audience the framework and rationales behind our successful Careers Weeks that was organized for students last year as well as how debriefing was done to consolidate learning.
The presentation was well-received by teachers, principals and EDB officials and as a token of appreciation, the EDB presented two certificates to our two ambassadors for their commendable performance. Below are the reflections of the two girls regarding the occasion.
“I had never shared my experience in such a formal occasion with teachers and even principals from different schools. In order to give our best on that day, Gigi and I prepared, discussed and wrote our own scripts after reading Ms. Lee’s PowerPoint and guiding questions for us a week before the actual occasion. To make it interactive, we jazzed up the presentation a bit and turned it into a talk show. I was quite nervous, to be honest with you – speaking in front of 200 guests, and all of them professional teachers and principals from other schools! However, this sharing has helped me recall the good times we had during the Careers Week and also reminded me of my Holland Codes, interests, strengths when making those 20 JUPAS choices.” ~ Edwina Leung
“I felt a bit awkward when I first stepped into the big conference room filled with 200 teachers and principals. But soon the feeling was replaced by amazement. Only after had I listened to the presentation by Mr Li and Ms Lee than I realized how massive, large amount of planning work and effort had been put into it by our careers teachers just to enlighten us and empower us to make better choices, which might have been overlooked or underestimated by us. Through the eyes of the teacher audience, I could also see their passion and desire to design something amazing for their students in their own schools. I felt how lucky we both were to have teachers and principals in Hong Kong who cared so much about our future.” ~ Gigi Wong
