Top 10: What unique rule or habit does your family have?
We have a rule that we cannot use our mobile phones in the toilet. Both my mum and I had been doing it, so we decided to ban it. Anyone caught breaking the rule will be “fined” HK$100. I even put a sign on the bathroom door as a reminder. The rule has helped, though: to save my pocket money, I don’t bring my phone to the toilet any more.
Top 10: What do you wish your parents had told you when you were younger?
Recently, my parents told me a piece of shocking news – I had an elder brother who was never born. It was heartbreaking when I heard the news because they had been hiding it from me for 16 years. I could imagine their pain. If they had told me earlier, I would have definitely tried to be a better son by taking good care of myself and my three-year-old baby brother. Then my parents wouldn’t have needed to worry about us too much. I’m going to try to make up for it.
Top 10: What is the best thing about being a teenager?
The restaurant discounts we enjoy as students. The eatery I often visit gives me more food for free and offers discounts on drinks. The owner told me that teenagers like me need to eat more so we can grow up to be healthy citizens. She also understands that most teenagers do not have a lot of money. I hope I can enjoy the same treatment at all restaurants!
Top 10: What was the moment when you realised you were growing up?
I was holding my dad’s hand in the street one day, and I suddenly realised that I was taller than him. I really miss the days when my dad would carry me on his shoulders, and I would look down from high above. Now I am jealous because my little brother has taken my spot!
