Nominated by Mr. Frankie Mak, Tony participated in the Green Aspirations & Innovative Actions scheme organized by CUHK and Jockey Club. Among all the participants of the scheme in Hong Kong, Tony was shortlisted to be one of the honourable recipients for the Star of Year Award 2017.
The following is his sharing on the experience from the competition:
“Through the Green Aspirations & Innovative Actions scheme, I got to learn a lot about what other participants do to live greener life and gained much insight. The scheme helped me to be more alert about energy consumption and make intentional choices in protecting the environment. For example, I have always known that using air-conditioner wasted more energy than using fan. The scheme further enhanced by understanding by giving me a clearer picture on the difference brought by the two choices. Also I become more aware of the problem of overconsumption. I now think twice before I buy something.
The scheme also helped me to project the impact of my every day choice on our environment and how it affect the world. My choice of cooling down room temperature will directly affect the consumption of fossil fuel. This lead to the emission of carbon dioxide, worsening greenhouse effect and raise world temperature. This affects the speed of melting ice (e.g. on Mountain Everest), which in turn affects low-lying islands like Maldives. Not only human beings, but the ecological environment for other living things are affected too.
I hope I can study Ecology in university and learn more about environmental issues. I hope one day, I can help promote environmental protection to young people, and make environmental friendliness that pass on from one generation to another. This is because everyone’s contribution matters when it comes to environmental protection.”
