SCMP EXPERIENCE DAY – by Zoe Chan
I remembered at the beginning of the day, one of the tutor asked me what I expected to learn. At that time I couldn’t really answer that question, but after the whole working day I know it was the attitude.
Working is an experience, not just about fun. The experience also reminded me of my responsibilities. Before that working day I didn’t expect I could learn many things about function planning. I had tried many different positions like an MC and a counter helper. I understood the process of function planning.
Being an MC was not easy. I had to write my own script, stand on the stage alone and speak it out confidently. MC is a thing that I enjoyed doing. I had tried it before at school, but it was the first time for me to give out the information to the whole plaza. It was amazing!
Apart from that, some of things were boring, some of them were easy, and some of them were challenging. But all I had to do was to make sure that I could do it perfectly because one little mistake can affect the whole function. In order to make sure things go right, we have to prepare well before we do it. It is important to prepare before everything!
An enjoyable experience – by Shilly Tsang
Before joining this events management programme, I guessed that I would just be one of the “decorations” there. I had a feeling that most of the work experience programmes only engage students in some boring tasks which are not meaningful to students. However, in this programme, the leader let us participate in different positions, like counting consumers, providing consumer services, helping the stage management, being the MC of the programme, and recording information. These were the tasks that we can’t learn from the books and school.
The leader kept reminding us to be responsible in our job, and he told us how important our job was. In addition, we thought we were really one of the team members of the programme because the whole team communicated well with each other and worked effectively as a team. They encouraged each other to be hard-working. Although I really enjoyed this experience, I realized that I am not suitable in working in events management in the future because I think it is not exciting and challenge enough. I want to be in a more competitive job. However, it was an enjoyable and worthy experience for me.
