The Library and English Department held the Book Week from 6 March to 8 March. Various fruitful activities were organised the whole week to share the joy of reading among teachers and students.
Here are the highlights of the events:
Authors’ Talks
The library invited Alina Chau, the Japan 2023 Best Middle-Grade Graphic Novel Sakura Award Winner, to share her journey of writing and illustrating a graphic novel, from collecting sources to piecing them together. Students learnt a lot from the talk.
The library also invited Jordan Rivet, a renowned author of young adult science fiction and fantasy, to share how to write a novel in 8 steps with the students. She engaged with the students with different notes and questions, which greatly benefited them. After the talk, the students also chatted with Jordan about her writing experiences.
Book Fair
In addition to the author’s talk, the library invited two companies to provide a wide range of English and Chinese books for students to choose from.
Workshops
In the Pressed flower x Calligraphy workshop, students learned calligraphy techniques and decorated their calligraphy pieces with pressed flowers. Students felt excited about making the art pieces on their own!
In the Leaf Skeleton Bookmark 2.0 workshop, students learnt how to make a bookmark by using leaves. They brushed the leaves to wash away the cells from the leaves and coloured the leaves according to their preferences.
Character Dress-up Day & Catwalk Show
To conclude the Book Week, the Library and English Department organised Character Dress-up Day. Teachers and students dressed as their favourite fictional characters. A Character Dress-up Catwalk Show. Over 10 teams participated in the event. The participants walked the runway with confidence, accompanied by upbeat background music and enchanting setting. The audience enthusiastically engaged in the show and voted for the Best LTPSS Next Top Model and the Best Outfit of the Day.
