Getting this outstanding youth award and even the Star of the Stars award still seem very unbelievable to me. In the whole process, I was constantly exposed to what I called the biggest fear in my life, (pause) uncertainty.
I can never forget the first interview which we had to answer questions related to social problems and political situation in HK, in Cantonese, Putonghua and English. I still remember the way I struggled to pronounce words in Putonghua while trying to think of ways to evaluate the performance of the three former Chief Executives of HK. At the same time, I had to constantly remind myself to put my answer in a well-organised, critical but impartial manner. There were people who doubted me, not to mention I doubting myself while competing with strong candidates from different schools in the territory. However, I choose to believe in myself, as I know if I don’t trust myself, there’s no way I can convince others to believe in me.
Today is the last morning assembly for S6 students. In less than 70 days, we are going to face one of the largest uncertainty to us — DSE. While coping with all the challenges ahead, there may be people who doubt you or question your ability. Before you let the voices of other people blind your own judgement, please remember you will never know how far you can go unless you give yourself a chance by giving your best shot.
We are all unique individuals. You are the only person who knows what you want the most and nobody knows your talents better than you do. So be brave, identify your goals and go for it. The best gift you can give to the world is to simply to be yourself and shine.
Local University Degree may not be the next destination for us all. But, at the time being, let’s work our very best for the DSE exams and leave no regret. Shine, for yourself.
