To enhance the learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Science Department of LTPSS has recently set up an aquaponics system in Biology preparation room.
Objectives of setting up an Aquaponics System in school:
- Incorporate innovative scientific ideas in learning activities
- Enhance generic and scientific processing skills (e.g. team work, responsibility, learn how to use data logger and to write scientific reports)
- Promote application of scientific knowledge in real life problems
- Provide learning experience for students with learning diversity

What is Aquaponics? Aquaponics basically involves growing plants and greens, by use of marine animals such as fish.
Aquaponics has become quite a popular trend when it comes to gardening and growing from home.
With such a system in school or even in your home, you can grow your own fish and fresh organic fruits and vegetables.
Science Department plans to integrate the Aquaponics system into the S.2 Science curriculum. Based on the prior knowledge in junior form science, students will acquire more scientific knowledge and applications which cannot be learnt from normal lessons. Also, throughout the year, S.2 students will form groups and be responsible for monitoring the system and conducting a series of scientific investigations which are under the guidance of teachers.
